2018 Sysco Canada Symposium Highlights

Posted by: Xplor, Inc. on Wednesday, March 14, 2018

What an amazing start to 2018! This year, Sysco Canada’s annual symposium traveled to the Fairmont Mayakoba Resort in Mexico. Everyone LOVED the resort, location, warm weather, and activities. Some of the group went home to a snowstorm in the northeast, so they soaked in all the warm weather and sun they possibly could.

Xplor, Inc. brought in a professional photographer who included drone photography as a special way to document the event. Another custom touch was having name badges with the symposium schedule on the back—super handy!

Team Xplor member Kathleen summed it up best, saying:

“Honestly the best symposium ever! Sysco attendees were all raving about their week when they said their goodbyes and boarded the busses to the airport. We were given so many hugs and thank yous. It was their 10th Symposium anniversary so we pulled out all the stops: fun entertainment, getting creative with the general session seating, using a catchbox for Q&A sessions, dreaming up delicious meals with gorgeous presentations, and more. The entire team at the Fairmont Mayakoba was absolutely amazing and caring—made everyone feel like family. We miss them already!”

Here's a glimpse into this amazing experience:

Day 1 – Welcome to Mexico!

Mayan Warriors greeted attendees at the hotel entrance as they walked off the bus and
checked-in with our Sysco Hospitality Desk and Team Xplor

Everyone enjoyed a welcome drink and relaxed at the resort before a short
ride (with margaritas in hand) to the dinner venue, El Pueblito

Guests were greeted by Mayan warriors and a mariachi band and the
restaurant was decorated with Mexican table runners, flowers in
Mexican bowls, fun piñatas, and papel picado/string lights

A dinner buffet included tacos, ceviche, grilled meats, and churro stations

Day 2 – Fire & Ice

The group enjoyed breakfast outside and was treated to an amazing sunrise

The general session featured custom seating to help attendees feel relaxed and focused, including hotel chairs mixed with sofas and end tables

A CatchBox was passed (tossed) around during presentations and Q&A sessions to engage the audience

Presenter Lisa “Longball” Vlooswyk delivered a high energy session that wowed the audience!

Afternoon for activities included a choice of participating in a golf tournament,
spa treatments, on-site lagoon kayaking, or an adventure tour at Selvatica Park

The second evening ended with the Fire & Ice Dinner, a networking reception
at La Laguna (on-site) featuring Sysco blue and green welcome
drinks that were set on fire before being given to guests

Fire dancers entertained attendees before dinner around the La Laguna pool

Keeping with the theme, the menu alternated between fire and ice dishes,
such as shrimp cocktail in an ice bowl; spicy chorizo and cheese warmed
with a coal; intermezzo; kebabs; cous cous; and Smores with fire bowl for dessert.
And of course, fountain sparklers to end the night!

Day 3 – Final Day

After breakfast outside with another amazing sunrise, the general session began with speaker Heath Slawner's presentation, “Start with Why”

As attendees exited the general session, they were surprised and excited to find the
Sysco Shopping Experience set up and waiting for them to enjoy

An afternoon of networking on the beach included Sysco branded flip flops (that imprinted "Sysco" in the sand as you walked), Sysco towels, Sysco corn hole and ladder toss, Sysco beach cups (cup with a stake that goes into the sand and keeps your drink from getting all sandy), and volleyball

For the farewell Night Under the Stars Gala Dinner, the group headed to Las Brisas (on-site), views of the beautiful sunset and cruise ships passing by. We could even see Cozumel from the restaurant! After a Blue Sysco champagne welcome, the attendees dined on corn soup or lobster bisque; lamb, sea bass, or polenta cake; and mascarpone cheese with berries. It was a beautiful end to a successful and memorable symposium!
